We all want to feel confident and comfortable in the clothing we wear and that starts by knowing what clothing is best for your body shape. When finding the right clothes for you it can be stressful but also fun. And the reason I say that is because stress can come in many forms. You have the type of stress when you can’t find that one piece to complete your outfit, you have the stress when something does not fit the way it used to, you have the stress of your outfit getting stain, broken or ripped. There are many possibilities that can get in the way of you looking good and feeling good for the day.
I am not the fashion police, but I am here to guide you to finding the best outfit for your body type and how to feel confident in that.
Are you ready? It seems like you are, so let’s get started.
Knowing Your Personal Style
First and foremost, you need to determine your personal style. Remember, your style can be completely different from others, and that’s perfectly okay! It’s important to embrace your unique look.
Knowing your correct size is essential
You should understand your body type and what fits you best, as well as what doesn’t. It’s all about finding what flatters your shape. Many people tend to hold onto clothes they used to fit into, or they keep items they’re not yet confident enough to wear. There are several common body shapes, and you might recognize yours among them. I will name a few and explain which styles work best for each body type.
Hourglass: Emphasize curves with fitted dresses, wrap tops, and high-waisted skirts. Highlight the waist with belts.
Pear: Balance proportions by drawing attention to the upper body. Opt for A-line skirts, structured tops, and light-colored blouses.
Apple: Focus on elongating the torso. Choose empire waist dresses, V-neck tops, and straight-leg pants. Avoid clingy fabrics around the midsection.
Rectangular: Create the illusion of curves with peplum tops, ruffled details, and layering. Use belts to define the waist.
Inverted Triangle: Balance wider shoulders with flared jeans or skirts and opt for softer fabrics on the upper body while embracing bold prints.
Another factor to consider is the choice of fabric you choose. Some individuals tend to sweat more, so it’s important to select clothing made from materials that cater those specific needs, such as cotton. Additionally, certain fabrics can complement your body shape. Flowing fabrics like chiffon are great for pear-shaped figures, while structured fabrics are more suitable for hourglass frames.
Love Your Body Shape
We all have flaws we may not be happy about, but there are ways to feel confident and minimize those imperfections through clothing. You can hide what you don’t like and highlight the parts you love about yourself. For example, if you have a long torso that you’re not fond of, wearing high-waisted pants can enhance your legs and create the illusion of a smaller torso. If you want to downplay your belly, consider wearing a size up to achieve a looser fit.
Look for clothing that is both appealing and comfortable, allowing you to feel confident in your own skin. Always remember, to embrace your body and to not stress on things you cant control about it. If there are things you can control, than take initiative.
