Noelle (Chapter 1)

[Noelle’s usual Overworld attire.]
In Chapter 1, Noelle didn’t seem to have that big of a role beyond a supporting character of sorts at most. While being the only one to offer being in a team of 3 for Kris despite their lateness, Noelle was too meek to bout against Berdly’s protest of such an idea.
Outside of that, after the Dark World adventure, the Player can have Kris talk to Noelle but it’s optional. You can tell her about Susie and watch she likes and in the next chapter could make Noelle give her a box of chalk, haha.
Noelle, also known as Noelle Holiday, is apart of the Holiday family, her father including herself are reindeer and while her mother, who’s also the mayor, is unseen as of yet, she is also likely apart of the Christmas theme of the family.
Besides being a reindeer, with a red nose, Noelle’s normal attire consists of a red and green sweater on top of dark clothing with white sleeves longer than the dark.

[Noelle’s usual Dark World attire.]
Noelle’s involvement in the plot increased in Chapter 2, not only being suddenly in a Dark World but even being a party member for a time.
Her Dark World design attire makes her have slightly paler skin and gives her a white robe. In addition, she gets ice powers to use on the offensive but also has healing magic as well. With her theme being Christmas, the Dark World reflects this in her clothing, making her almost appear like an angel.

It’s here we also know more about her relationships with other characters.
We learn about how she had a sister named Dess and she, Noelle, Kris and Asriel, were tight friends, hanging out with one another, their families having a close bond for a time as well before…. Dess’s disappearance. Noelle tried looking for her sister but she couldn’t find her. Since then, it’s implied that’s why the rift happened between the two families. Despite that Noelle, did still care for Kris but, due to such a traumatic event, grew distant albeit not intentionally.
Next, we learn how her and Berdly met as well. While it’s Berdly telling the tale, it still connects to Noelle. When in a spelling bee, Noelle had to spell “December”. Noelle was unable to, (game implying she went on her knees in shock, let alone that’s her sister’s full first name) and Berdly took the win and people started paying attention to him, calling him smart. Enjoying said attention, Berdly relays on Noelle as a study partner to keep that status afloat.
Although while seemingly good friends, it also comes off as unhealthy-ish due to Berdly using Noelle and seeing her as completely helpless but if someone does the Weird Route of the game, Berdly drops all of his snooty attitude to try to help Noelle out of something very toxic, showcasing Berdly’s Heart of Gold, even if he can come off as annoying and misunderstanding others at times.
Lastly, Noelle’s relationship with Susie. Noelle, has, such, a, HUGE, crush on Susie. When in the full team party, wanting to walk behind her, giving her the box of chalk as brought up earlier, and even wanting Susie to be mean to her, finding it odd Susie doesn’t do so to her. Noelle, besides being a infatuated teenager, also doesn’t mind the idea that Susie isn’t as scary as she thinks she is.
Noelle is someone who’s into scary movies, only because they’re in a controlled environment and nostalgic for her. Susie is similarly that good comfy scary. Susie inspires Noelle to sooner stand up for herself, to learn how to say no and to stop being a doormat, to sooner be happy. In turn, Noelle’s kindness confuses Susie, however, it also lets Susie be soft and lower her guard for once. It’s currently unknown if they’ll be a couple but, whether they have a romantic or a platonic relationship, they have traits that can help one another grow as people.
Misc
Noelle is a “good kid” and by proxy, likely suffers from good kid syndrome and other issues. One is how her Father, Rudy Holiday is hospitalized. He can still talk and such but, being hospitalized for more than a couple days can very much bother someone on if who they care for will get any better. Not to mention Noelle’s implied home life.
It’s unknown what he home life was before hand but nowadays, besides the missing case of Dess Holiday, it’s heavily implied Noelle can’t even go to her mother for help if she accidentally locks herself out of the house. This also implies how her mother wants Noelle to be perfect, likely due to the mayor position being stressful and/or due to the stress from her missing daughter and hospitalized husband. Poor girl has it rough.
In addition, let’s address something. There’s something called Fight, Flight, Freeze and Fawn. In the game, Noelle can fight enemies or against Queen (the ruler of Chapter 2’s Cyber World), run away, freeze and is docile. Noelle is a teenager reindeer, or you could say, a fawn. Fawn in that list mentioned earlier basically means that the person will act docile around a stressor to avoid more potential trouble. How Noelle reacts to locking herself out could imply her currently home life with her mother. But very symbolic and clever for the game to do so through Noelle.
Noelle also has the odd habit of going to the supermarket to stand in front of their freezers, being in a daze. Something similar happens if you keep pushing Noelle to “be stronger” in the Weird Route. Implying a sense of trauma with ice, perhaps? Which is ironic considering her Christmas theme but maybe, that’s when Dess disappeared, on a cold day. Noelle did try using the computers to try to find any hints on where her sister might be…
Summary
To do a brief overall; Noelle is a character who is a smart girl that one way or another, learns how to grow out of her shell.
Clearly, she ended up being more important to the game than some people had originally thought with Chapter 1’s demo. Time will tell to see how much more spotlight the holiday reindeer will have. Hopefully for the better.
