Welcome back to another round of Design Blox Studio’s Character Analysis discussions! We’re resuming talking about RWBY!
Now we’re going to talk about the remaining members of Team RWBY, led by Ruby Rose. I
So starting off we have…
Blake Belladonna

Here we have Blake, another aloof member of Team RWBY. Well, she’s more so withdrawn and quiet at the start before she warms up to start speaking her mind more and showing more of her emotions.
Blake has mostly black in her design, with white and purple but has yellow eyes.
Similar to Ruby, Blake shares the shade of black in her design. At the start, the mystery element radiates with Blake due to her quiet and withdrawn nature. She’s also elegant, wielding a ribbon with her weapon, doing the flippy dippies in the air as she fights, haha. Even if quiet, if something interests her, she’ll sooner come out of her shell to interact with it, similar to a cat. In fact, her overall behavior is cat like in terms of her mannerisms, isn’t it?
Purple can also symbolize mystery as well, along with power. Blake, even if speedy, is no slouch either in the fighting department. She made in Beacon Academy for a reason. The color Yellow can symbolize intelligence, which Blake is. Blake besides being a speedy fighting, often relies on her wits in a fight since she’s not the powerhouse in a fight usually.
Going back to the shade of Black for a bit, Blake is moody at times and can be paranoid and fearful due to her past, not just being a Faunus but being apart of the White Fang as well. In fact, Yellow can symbolize fear as well, doubling into how Blake is. In fact, there was issues between her ex-mentor and ex-boyfriend, Adam as well.
Nevertheless, Blake will fight for good and try to work towards undoing the many years of hate a discrimination her kin went through, even if she may not know exactly how earlier on.
Blake’s name means “black, white, dark or pale” which is fitting of her attire containing black and white. Her last name, Belladonna, means “Beautiful Lady”.
Blake is inspired from the story “Beauty and the Beast”, in both the Beauty and a bit of the Beast. (Ya know, due to being a cat. You gathered that, right? If not, now ya did!)
Last but definitely not least…
Yang Xiao Long
[Left image gotten from RWBY’s Tvtropes Page, Right image is from the RWBY Wiki]
Yang is a big ball of sunshine, not surprising as she’s Ruby’s older half sister.
Yang has mostly Yellow in her design, but also has orange and purple. Yellow can symbolize happiness and optimism which Yang often shines in. Often saying things to lift up the crew or to make them laugh with a bad pun. How punishing. Also warmth, which besides her positive temperament, when she uses her powers when losing her temper, her hair goes up in flames. How fitting, that she’s a hot head! The color can also mean supporting, which due to being the powerhouse of Team RWBY she also does there and with her little sister as well.
Orange’s symbolism shares a lot with the color Yellow as well so we’ll mention one thing about it. It can mean Youth, to which, while every member on Team RWBY can fall under this, especially with Ruby being the youngest, Yang is also a party girl, something some girls in their youth really do or start to do.
Even if a ball of sunshine, as stated, Yang can lose her patience, which was also evidenced when she and Ruby were younger. To go off and try to find her birth mother, she not only put herself in danger but she also dragged Ruby into danger with her. Thankfully no one really got hurt but this was a form of a wake up call to Yang relating to issues with her birth Mother.
Yang’s name can mean “Light and Sun”, Xiao Long can mean “Little Dragon”. Fitting for her personality and skillset.
Yang is inspired from the story “Goldilocks and the Three Bears”. With her hair being golden and her having a strength like a bear, it checks out.
That’s all for this post! Thank you for your time!
