In Epithet Erased created by Brendan Blaber aka JelloApocalypse, some people (specifically 1 in every 5, yet the number is slowly increasing) are born with a unique word tied to their soul, those people are inscribed, and once the person discovers the specific word tied to their soul, they unlock their Epithets! (Or they don’t, there have been cases where some inscribed believe they are normal people, aka, mundies.) [It is an adaptation of Brendan Blaber aka JelloApocalypse’s Anime Campaign, a Tabletop RPG campaign.]
Epithet Erased is a story where some of the population are born with such powers. With a word tied to them, it’s up to the user to figure out how to apply it where they can. If said person has high creativity, they could apply it various ways some people with low creativity, cannot.
One Epithet holder, is Molly, here.
Today on Design Blox Studio Character Design Analysis, we have Molly Blyndeff!

Molly is one of the main characters of the story and her Epithet is Dumb! No, it’s not dumb as the insult, it’s literally the word “Dumb”. In the series, Molly has used it to dumb down things like noise to even an attack’s damage!

Similar to Molly using her Epithet to make herself comfy from too much or loud noises, her clothing is very much comfortable. Namely her hoodie. Said hoodie adds onto Molly’s bear motif (it’s more easily seen when someone lifts her up from her hoodie), the other detail being her hair “rings” on the side forming and resembling bear ears. The motif details doesn’t stop there in the story, as Molly is given the alias, “Bear Trap” and can use her Epithet to aid in sneak attacks. In one case being, distracting an antagonist keeping them in place much like a bear trap which is pretty clever. Molly starts off as a docile person but learns to be assertive to stand up for herself. So, let’s hope people will not poke the bear, haha.
Another thing with Molly’s design is that, her eyes resemble buttons and the bits on her shoes resemble gumdrops. This is because her family owns a Toy Store that Molly now mostly runs due an event that happened in her family a couple of years ago that they still haven’t recovered from. Note, she’s doing that, taking care of a lot of household chores and still trying to manage school on top of all that (hence her bookbag). Poor girl.
Also, Molly’s last name. Blyndeff? “Blind deaf”? how fitting for someone who has the power to dumb down things. While ironic that Molly herself isn’t dumb, nor blind or deaf, in fact, she’s amongst the smartest in the current cast of main characters, her sister is being willingly blind to not do anything useful to help out her sister despite acknowledging it, hearing it and their Father Martin is being very blind and not hearing out Molly at all.
On the flipside topic on Molly’s design, the stars in her hair. The star design actually doesn’t relate to Molly herself or her family (even though her father also has the stars in his beard). Lila, another character of Brendan Blaber, had stars in her hair originally before that design quirk got transferred into Molly’s for her Epithet Erased adaption. The colorful stars can fall in the theme of the toy store, as stuff like spaceships, aliens and the like has been sold as toys. This is neat huh? Stuff like this often happens in character design, parts of previously concepted characters may get put together in another.
That is all we have for this session with Design Blox Studio Character Design Analysis! Hope to see you on our next post~!
