I always wait until the last minute to find a Halloween costume every year. If you’re in the same boat, don’t worry! I’ve got some easy DIY costume ideas that you can put together in just 30 minutes. Whether heading to a Halloween party or joining your kids for some trick-or-treating, these quick costume ideas will have you covered.
You don’t have to rely on store-bought costumes either. You can use items you already have at home or take a trip to your local thrift store to find everything you need to bring your costume vision to life.
Bloody Zombie:
For a bloody zombie costume, you can choose clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty. If you have access to a backyard or any nearby dirt, you can rub a bit of dirt onto the clothing to give it an aged and vintage appearance. Once the clothing looks suitably old, you can apply fake blood to the clothing, as well as on your arms and face for a more realistic effect.
The formula for fake blood:
Three parts corn syrup
One part water
Red food coloring
Flour to thicken
Pac Man Ghost:
To create a Pac-Man ghost costume, start by finding an umbrella and a long piece of color sheet or mesh fabric. Make sure the fabric allows you to see through the umbrella once it’s attached. Next, draw the eyes of the Pac-Man ghost on a piece of cardboard, make sure its in the shape of the pac man eye and use a hot glue gun to attach it to the fabric covering the umbrella.
Robot:
Make sure to find one or two large cardboard boxes that are big enough for you to fit inside and another one for your head. You have the creative freedom to add anything you want to the boxes or paint the outer box to resemble the robot of your choice.
Matrix:
If you have any black clothing, preferably in black leather, you could dress up as either Trinity or Neo. They are known for wearing long black trench coats. Trinity typically wears a black latex or leather body con jumpsuit with wet, slicked-back hair and black shades.
Favorite TV Character:
I’ve noticed some popular characters that people like to dress up as for Halloween. It’s amusing to see how they bring these characters to life. For example,
there’s Tina Belcher from Bob’s Burgers, who is recognized by her blue shirt, black bob hair, and black square frame glasses.
Then there’s Jake from State Farms, known for his red polo shirt, “Jake, State Farms” name label, beige khakis, and white sneakers.
Another popular choice is Dora the Explorer, with her pink t-shirt, purple backpack, orange shorts, and brown bob haircut. Lastly, there’s Dexter from Dexter’s Laboratory, who is easily recognizable by his white lab coat, purple gloves, black pants, black shoes, orange hair, and sunglasses.
