Artist can be creative in many ways, it does not have to only be consider Art if it’s on a canvas. It serves as a powerful medium for emotional and physical expression, allowing individuals to share their innermost thoughts and feelings. Fashion, as an art form, transforms this creativity into something wearable, making personal expression accessible. Fashion brands create a story based on the way they want to be perceived. Art is versatile, an artist can want to transition their art on paper to art on clothing. Another way to gain a new audience.
The representation of art on the runway is extraordinary and has evolved significantly each year. One notable designer is Colm Dillane, the creative behind the streetwear brand “KidSupper.” An American fashion designer and artist, Dillane established KidSupper to reflect his unique vision. The brand name, inspired by a nickname given to him by friends, his nickname gives a lot of creativity and self-expression. His creative fashion sense and art collaboration has brought attention to his work. He would play with color and use abstract techniques to convey his messaging, adding portraits to those textures and allowing the faces to stand out on its own.

Fashion Becomes Art:
Fashion shares a deep connection with art on many levels. Both mediums rely on elements such as texture, color, and fabric to explore the ideas and emotions. In fashion, creativity plays a role in transforming concepts into designs that reflect individual style and personality.
Much like a piece of art, clothing can communicate messages and evoke feelings. Each garment has the power to tell a story, allowing the wearer to express their identity and mood. Just as a painting can connect with its viewers, fashion can engage and inspire, turning everyday attire into a form of personal expression and artistic statement. Over the years I have seen amazing fashion brands with different concepts making its way to runway.
The same way art has an impact on you so does your clothing.
Have you ever heard of the expression “Look Good, Feel Good?” Well, I’m here to tell you that statement is true—and sometimes you don’t even notice. The colors we choose can set certain tones in our mood throughout the day, and those same colors can leave an impact on others as well. For instance, blue is often described as vibrant, calming, and breathable, while green evokes feelings of peace and a connection to nature. It’s no wonder green is considered a balanced color that can lift your spirits when you’re feeling down or anxious.
Now, think about this: everything is interconnected. Just as colors influence our emotions, the textures of fabrics can also shape how we feel physically and emotionally. For example, slipping into a cozy beige sweater lined with soft fur can create an immediate sense of comfort and warmth, making you feel held and secure.
Imagine wearing a flowy dress that sways with your movements, or donning a structured blazer that empowers you. These choices can boost your confidence and affect how others perceive you. The tactile experience of fabrics, whether it’s the smoothness of silk or the ruggedness of denim, also plays a role in shaping our mood and self-perception.
I could name countless examples, but I think you get the concept: the way we dress and the colors we choose are not just about aesthetics; they’re about how we express ourselves and how we feel in our own skin. So, the next time you get dressed, consider the colors and textures you’re surrounding yourself with. They might just hold the key to a brighter day.

Fashion is inspired by Art
Many fashion designers tend to use famous art pieces as an inspiration to convey a story. Letting the garments speak for themselves as if you, the audience is watching art piece move through the runway. According to the Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana worked together to come up with the designer brand name Dolce & Gabbana. They both wanted to incorporate Peter Paul Rubens painting of “Venus in front of the mirror” into their fashion collection for fall/winter 2020. The concept Dolce & Gabbana wanted to deliver was that color are more important than lines, which brings a sexual desire. A symbol of ultimate beauty.
If you are a fashion designer, and you ever get stuck on the next idea for you next collection, you should highly suggest referencing art into your next collection. Keeping art alive and getting inspired by the colors and textures they all portrayed within each other can make an impact. This will reflect on you and others.
